Opening a birth center is proving to be hard work with many steps, lots of paperwork and financial obligations. Licensing fees, building rental or purchase, furnishings, this web site and necessary supplies are just a few of the major costs incurred. Any donation to our birth center would be wonderful and used to help us to achieve our goals; this birth center will support the White Mountains of Northeastern Arizona by providing options to birthing families in the community, helping them to get off to the best start with their

new baby. The choices are vast for people who live in metropolitan areas, however, the choices are usually limited to home or hospital in rural areas such as the White Mountains. Additionally, women are being turned away from local obstetricians because they have no space left for new patients, even in pregnancy!

According to Arizona Health Matters, Apache County had an infant mortality rate of 10.5/1000 live births in 2013. This is excessive in comparison to Navajo County with a 4.5/1000 live births infant mortality rate. We believe the explanation lies in access to prenatal, birth and postpartum services. Navajo County has the only hospital with a labor and delivery department, this means that if a pregnant woman in Apache County goes into labor, the closest hospital is an hour or more away. If she was unable to find an available obstetrician, she will be arriving at the hospital with no prenatal care and the baby and mothers health would be unknown. We hope to lower the infant mortality rate by providing services closer to women who need them and by providing excellent education, care and informed choice.

We understand that it can be difficult to donate money without reciprocating something so we have come up with several ways we feel we can help support your family and/or business in exchange for your monetary support. We can offer:

• Discounted midwifery and/or lactation services

• Adding your company to our online referrals list, including a link to your website

• Including your logo and business information in our resources binder that will be on the coffee table in the birth center

• An agreement to purchase needed products from your company

• A word-of-mouth referral for your company and/or products to our clients
